Cumbia

A six-part visual series tracing cumbia’s roots, evolution and cultural influence across Latin America and the United States.

For NPR, I edited the series by photographers Karla Gachet and Ivan Kashinsky, shaping their broader project into six bilingual digital stories exploring how cumbia evolved from its origins on Colombia’s Caribbean coast into a musical tradition transformed by migration, place and identity.

I later adapted and art directed the project for exhibitions at Photoville in New York City and the Bronx Documentary Center’s Latin American Foto Festival, designing a 37-foot outdoor banner and accompanying printed materials.
